About us

Weight Loss Fact Checker checks the health claims people see every day on TikTok, Instagram, in forums and on product labels, and explains plainly what the evidence says.

We started in 2025 by fact-checking myths about weight-loss medication. Readers kept asking the same wider questions: Will these pyjamas help with night sweats? Do I need this supplement? Is this pillow actually cooling? So we've broadened our scope to midlife health, sleep and weight.

Who we are

Carol Standing, Founder and Editor. Carol has spent more than 20 years in health and weight management, working with well-known UK brands including Weight Watchers and the Hairy Bikers Diet Club, and with medically supervised weight-management programmes. She is a trained Functional Health & Biohacking coach and the founder of Still Standing Health, which helps women in menopause get their sleep, energy and health back. She started this site because the same questions kept coming up, and too many of the answers online were written to sell something. Carol isn't a doctor, so every article is based on published guidance and research, with the sources linked. LinkedIn · carolstanding.com

Every article is researched, written and checked by a person before it goes live. We use AI tools to help find and summarise research, but no claim is published until a person has read the original source.

What we promise

  • We cite our sources. Every verdict links to the regulator, guideline or study it's based on.
  • We say when we don't know. If the evidence is thin, we say so rather than guess.
  • We date everything. Each page shows when it was last reviewed, and we update it when the evidence changes.
  • We're open about money. We earn commission from some links, including Amazon. Brands can't pay for a verdict, and we recommend products only where the evidence supports them. How we make money.

Conflicts of interest

We think you should know about our other connections to health businesses:

  • Still Standing Health. Carol Standing founded Still Standing Health, which sells menopause courses and coaching. Where an article mentions it, we say so.
  • Bio ID Health. Carol Standing co-founded Bio ID Health, a doctor-led clinic offering bioidentical hormone therapy. We don't link to or promote it, and any article about hormone therapy states this connection at the top.

Neither business influences our verdicts.

What we don't do

  • We don't give personal medical advice.
  • We don't promote or link to sellers of prescription-only medicines.
  • We don't publish sponsored verdicts.
